Innovative Solutions for Decarbonization of a Subsea Pipeline Network

Subsea pipelines such as in-field flowlines, trunklines, test lines etc. are an integral part of all offshore field developments. This paper covers innovative solutions for carbon footprint reduction from different phases of subsea pipeline life cycle i.e. design, construction and operation. Low carbon field developments are vital and heart of these developments are innovative solutions which can lead to design optimizations and thereby can significantly reduce offshore works during construction phase. The key to decarbonize subsea pipelines during operational phase is to develop the ability to perform operational activities such as inspection, maintenance and repair (IMR) remotely. In this context, the paper highlights cutting edge robotic technologies for concrete removal and repair of live subsea pipelines & risers. The use of non-metallic materials such as world’s first glass reinforced plastic (GRP) supports for subsea pipeline free span corrections further support low carbon field developments as well as high operational efficiency.
