Canada Energy Regulator partners with PRCI to boost research and pipeline safety
In a recent MOU the Canadian energy regulator CER announced a new partnership with Pipeline Research Council International (PRCI) to support the advancement of safe and efficient pipeline infrastructure through knowledge sharing, applied research, education, and technology.
As the federal regulating body, CER’s role is to ensure safe and efficient delivery of energy to Canada while protecting the environment and recognizing the rights of Indigenous Peoples. It provides timely and relevant energy information and analysis.
PRCI is an organization, whose mission is to foster an international, industry-wide collaborative community that delivers innovative applied research, and develops the means for stakeholders to leverage and implement the research and its results.
Together both parties are able to identify priorities and potential for research on pipeline safety and opportunities for collaboration based on technical experience and expertise. In addition CER will be granted access to research reports and to Professor PeRCI, PRCI’s AI search tool.
Cliff Johnson, President of PRCI, commented on the MOU: "Our partnership with the Canada Energy Regulator reflects a shared belief: that safer pipelines are built on a foundation of rigorous research and sound regulation. When a pipeline fails, we all fail — industry, regulators, and the communities we serve — and that reality is exactly what brings us together today. PRCI was built to ensure that world-class research drives the decisions that keep people safe, and this partnership is a great step toward making that a reality. When industry and regulators work from the same evidence, everyone benefits — our members, the environment, and the public."
