Chevron and Israel Natural Gas Lines have partnered to start construction of the Nitzana natural gas pipeline, a new project designed to boost Israeli gas exports to Egypt.

The pipeline, part of a $35 billion export deal, will transport natural gas from Israel’s offshore Leviathan field to Egypt, helping to address Egypt’s growing energy needs amid rising global demand.

Expected to deliver up to 600 million cubic feet of natural gas per day upon its anticipated completion in 2028, the project is a significant step in enhancing energy cooperation between the two nations, which have seen their ties strengthen through various energy initiatives.

This additional capacity will increase Israel’s total gas export capacity to Egypt to more than 2.2 billion cubic feet daily.

Signed last month between the owners of the Leviathan field, including NewMed, Chevron, and Ratio Energies, the strategic partnership aims to provide a stable and reliable energy source for Egypt, while also solidifying Israel’s role as a key energy supplier in the region.

The Nitzana pipeline is a crucial component of this broader effort to develop regional energy infrastructure, with Egypt expected to invest $400 million into the project.

By increasing the flow of natural gas from Israel to Egypt, the project not only supports Egypt’s energy security but also contributes to the stability of the regional energy market.

The initiative highlights a mutual commitment to economic cooperation and shared infrastructure development that could serve as a model for future projects in the region.
