Greek manufacturer Corinth Pipeworks has been awarded a contract to supply 41 kilometers (25 miles) of steel piping for the Liverpool Bay Carbon Capture and Storage (CCS) project.

Announced last week, the project is a central component of the United Kingdom’s decarbonization strategy, aiming to help the country meet Net-Zero target by 2050.

Operated by Italian energy company Eni, the Liverpool Bay initiative forms the structural backbone of HyNet, one of the world's most advanced industrial CCS clusters.

The project is designed to collect carbon dioxide emissions from industrial operations across North-West England and North Wales, transporting them for permanent underground storage in Eni’s depleted natural gas reservoirs situated deep beneath Liverpool Bay.

Under the agreement, Corinth Pipeworks will manufacture and deliver high-performance Longitudinal Submerged Arc Welded (LSAW) steel pipes along with specialized hot induction bends.

The pipeline system will utilize pipe diameters of 20, 24, and 36 inches, each manufactured with external anti-corrosion coating to withstand harsh environmental conditions across both its onshore and offshore sections.

The infrastructure requires specialized pipe specifications rated for sour service applications to handle the corrosive properties of compressed carbon dioxide safely.

Once operational, the pipeline network will integrate both newly manufactured pipe sections and repurposed existing infrastructure to establish a continuous transport line from industrial sites to offshore geological storage sites.

The contract strengthens Corinth Pipeworks' footprint in the European carbon management sector as governments across the region accelerate investments in carbon capture to meet net-zero emissions targets.

Eni’s contract award joins the list of the latest projects undertaken by Corinth Pipeworks. IN 2025, the company secured major contracts for Italy’s Adriatic Pipeline and Greece–North Macedonia Natural Gas Interconnector.
