Corinth Pipeworks Wins DESFA Contract for 218-Km Hydrogen-Ready Pipeline Project
Corinth Pipeworks has secured a major contract from Greece’s Hellenic Gas Transmission System Operator, DESFA, to manufacture and supply steel pipes for the "Duplication of Karperi–Komotini High-Pressure Branch" pipeline project, a pivotal infrastructure investment in the country's energy sector.
Under the agreement, Corinth Pipeworks will produce and deliver over 200 kilometres of 30-inch Helical Submerged Arc Welded linepipe.
The pipeline will form a new parallel high-pressure network engineered to boost the capacity, operational flexibility, and overall resilience of the Greek National Natural Gas Transmission System.
Manufacturing will take place at the company's industrial facilities in Thisvi, Greece.
The steel pipes will feature a three-layer polyethylene anti-corrosion exterior coating alongside an internal epoxy lining to ensure durability and internal flow efficiency.
A distinguishing technical feature of the 218.5-kilometer parallel network is its future-proof design.
The infrastructure is built to be hydrogen-ready, capable of transporting up to 100% pure hydrogen.
This capability aligns directly with broader Greek and European Union initiatives aimed at accelerating the transition toward cleaner, low-carbon energy alternatives.
Once operational, the expanded pipeline will eliminate severe capacity bottlenecks currently affecting the northern section of Greece’s gas grid.
Beyond expanding domestic supply, the project serves a broader strategic function for Southeast Europe: it strengthens regional energy security, accommodates rising power demands, and expands cross-border capacity to support gas exports through the Interconnector Greece–Bulgaria pipeline.
Corinth Pipeworks, the steel pipe segment of CNOPS, continues to expand its footprint in international infrastructure development.
The company specializes in advanced pipeline solutions tailored for emerging energy markets, offering products engineered for traditional natural gas transport as well as clean energy applications, including pure hydrogen and carbon capture initiatives.
