Energy Giants Total and Shell Present in Talks to Advance Iran-Oman Gas Pipeline Project
Senior officials from Oman and Iran met in Teheran to discuss the export of Iranian gas to Oman by the end of 2017.
According to Platts, a spokesman for Shell said Monday, “We can confirm that Shell is a member in the Advisory Task Force of the Iran,Oman gas pipeline Project. The scope of the work of the project is subject to confidentiality.”
In 2013, Tehran and Muscat agreed on a
15-year gas exports plan via a seabed pipeline, as ptj reported earlier. The pipeline, estimated to cost around $1.5 billion, will have the capacity to transport 1 Bcf/d of Iranian natural gas to Oman.
Almost a third of the gas exported by Iran to Oman will be turned into liquefied natural gas (LNG) in the sultanate’s Qalhat plant, and the rest will be consumed domestically. Iran will accordingly use the LNG produced at Qalhat plant for exports to European and Asian markets.
