Norwegian energy giant Equinor has awarded a multi-year framework agreement to Swedish firm Njord Survey to oversee the inspection and integrity of its extensive offshore pipeline network across Europe.

The three-year contract, which includes a one-year extension option, tasks Njord Survey with maintaining the structural health of subsea infrastructure that serves as a critical artery for European energy security.

Under the terms of the deal, the Swedish offshore specialist will deploy high-resolution geophysical surveys to monitor pipeline conditions and detect potential vulnerabilities before they escalate into operational hazards.

According to the announcement, the agreement centres on the use of advanced subsea technology to ensure long-term pipeline reliability.

Njord Survey will utilize low-emission vessel operations to conduct these inspections, reflecting a growing industry shift toward reducing the carbon footprint of essential maintenance activities.

“We are incredibly happy and proud to secure this long-term agreement with Equinor,” said Philip Ljungström, Project Director at Njord Survey. “Our teams at sea and onshore have shown exceptional collaboration and precision.

This is a great example of how advanced technology, strong client collaboration, and our commitment to sustainability go hand in hand.”

Ensuring the integrity of pipelines is a high-stakes endeavor in the North Sea and broader European waters.

Equinor, known for maintaining some of the most rigorous health, safety, and environmental (HSE) standards in the global energy sector, selected Njord based on a shared operational philosophy regarding risk management.

The contract solidifies Njord Survey’s presence in the offshore energy market. This deal follows a successful expansion period for the company; in October 2025, Njord secured a similar long-term framework agreement with 50Hertz to support offshore wind development in the German Baltic Sea.

By integrating high-resolution data collection with sustainable maritime practices, the partnership aims to provide Equinor with a clear, real-time understanding of its subsea assets while adhering to strict environmental benchmarks.

Maintenance operations are expected to begin immediately across Equinor’s European offshore portfolio.
