EVRAZ, a multinational, vertically - integrated steel making and mining company headquartered in London, has announced that it will invest $200 million in the construction of a large diameter pipe mill, enabling the production of thicker - walled pipe.

The investment, the biggest in EVRAZ North American history, will serve the growing demand in Canada for large diameter pipes and state-of-the-art steelmaking.

At the same time, EVRAZ announced that it will partner on a joint research and development program with Enbridge, one of Canada's largest energy companies, to enhance pipeline performance. According to Conrad Winkler, EVRAZ CEO, “EVRAZ has the largest pipe Research and Development Centre in North America and it has played an important role in Canadian steel advances since 1982. Now we will combine our experience with that of Enbridge to further augment the performance of large diameter pipe.”

Enbridge says it will build more than $22 billion of pipelines over the next three years to open new markets for Canadian producers.
