The russian company Gazprom has announced that the construction of its gas pipeline to China has been completed by 99 %.

In May 2014, Gazprom and the Chinese national oil and gas company (CNPC) signed a contract for the sale of Russian gas via the eastern route. The duration of the contract is 30 years and covers the supply of 38 billion cubic meters of gas per year to the People's Republic of China.

Deliveries are scheduled to start in mid-December 2019 after the 3000 kilometre pipeline has been tested. For 2019 Gazprom plans to invest about 2.24 billion US Dollars into the project. The Russian company announced in September last year that the pipeline is almost completed up to the Chinese boarder. In Russia, the pipeline runs through three regions of the country, including the Republic of Sakha (Yakutia) and the regions of Irkutsk and Amur.
The construction in the Chinese area is currently nearing completion.

In addition to the pipeline, Gazprom plans to build a new gas treatment plant. The project will be supplied from the Irkutsk and Yakutia gas production centers as part of the Eastern Gas Program.
Gazprom plans to supply more than 25 percent of China's gas imports by 2035 to become China's largest gas supplier. China is the world's largest oil importer and the second largest consumer of natural gas.
