Specialists from the Gas TSO of Ukraine recently visited the Estonian company Elering A.S. to get acquainted with the practical application of the innovative Non-Intrusive Pipeline Assessment (NIPA) method for inspecting underground gas pipelines.

Several main gas pipeline sections operated by GTSOU are inaccessible to conventional in-line inspection (ILI). An alternative method is the NIPA method proposed by ROSEN Europe B.V., which, according to developers, allows for assessing the condition of pipelines without interfering with their structure. This solution is especially useful for challenging or hard-to-reach sections.

The visit included Ukrainian experts participating in the ROSEN team’s inspection of the Tallinn-Jõhvi section operated by Elering. The study aimed to evaluate NIPA method’s efficiency and accuracy, and explore its potential implementation in Ukraine.

“The introduction of modern diagnostic technologies is our top priority. We are constantly seeking new solutions to enhance the reliability and safety of the gas transmission system. By studying the experience of our European colleagues and implementing innovative approaches allows us to move forward and meet the highest industry standards,” said Oleksandr Melnyk, Head of the Integrity Management Department at GTSOU.

Through a long-standing partnership, GTSOU and ROSEN have applied cutting-edge technologies in gas pipelines inspection field to enhance pipeline safety by promptly identifying defects. The company is committed to reliable gas transmission infrastructure through continuous maintenance enhancements and new solution implementation.
