Industrial instrumentation manufacturer KROHNE has introduced PipePatrol NEO, an advanced pipeline monitoring system designed to detect leaks, identify product theft, and safeguard critical infrastructure.

At the core of the new system is Neural Engine Pipeline Monitoring (NEPM), KROHNE’s next-generation technology engineered for continuous internal pipeline surveillance.

The system combines artificial intelligence with established physical models to address complex operational risks, including internal corrosion, equipment failure, illegal tapping, third-party interference, and environmental hazards.

PipePatrol NEO is built for broad deployment across energy and utility sectors, supporting oil and gas lines, chemical processing plants, municipal water networks, district heating, and emerging hydrogen infrastructure.

The NEPM engine uses a multi-method monitoring approach that pairs real-time flow, pressure, and temperature measurements with hydraulic modeling and statistical pattern recognition.

By continuously evaluating real-world operational data against a simulated "virtual pipeline," the platform spots subtle discrepancies in pressure or flow.

Its machine learning algorithms adapt to changing line conditions over time, accelerating leak pinpointing while minimizing false alarms, even during volatile operating states.

"PipePatrol NEO combines artificial intelligence with proven physical models, providing an effective way to manage the complex risks of modern pipelines," the company said in a statement.

Featuring a modular layout, PipePatrol NEO allows operators to configure specific toolsets tailored to their line requirements.

Options range from high-sensitivity leak tracking and real-time theft alerts to rupture detection, structural stress monitoring, tightness testing, and predictive analytics.

The software can be retrofitted onto existing infrastructure without requiring major pipeline overhauls and integrates directly into existing Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) control systems.

Beyond boosting physical safety, KROHNE emphasized the technology's environmental benefits. By identifying containment breaches early, operators can mitigate catastrophic soil and water pollution, reduce commodity losses, and optimize overall energy usage along transit routes.
