Nairobi-Mombasa refined products pipeline completed
State-run Kenya Pipeline Company (KPC) announced the finalization of a refined products pipeline linking Kenya’s capital Nairobi with the port city of Mombasa. The 450 km pipeline projects reduces the local traffic, commuting daily between these two cities, by almost 700 oil tanker trucks per day. Furthermore, the pipeline also enhances the reliability of fuel supply to the neighboring export markets of Uganda, Rwanda and eastern Democratic Republic of Congo.
The construction of the pipeline began in 2014 in order to replace a decrepit, old one from 1973, which already had outlived its lifespan. The pipeline is capable of transporting 1 million litres of refined products per hour. In addition to this, several new storage tanks have been completed in order to increase the storage capacity countrywide to more than 700 million litres.
