New Interactive Digital Map Provides Current Information on Canada's Vast Oil and Gas Pipeline Network

The Canadian Energy Pipeline Association (CEPA) is raising the transparency bar by launching a new interactive digital map, giving Canadians easy access to detailed information on over 100,000 km of member transmission pipelines crisscrossing the country.

CEPA’s About Pipelines Map, which operates on the Google maps platform, lets visitors enter an address, postal code, city or province to find the exact location of pipelines and facilities in their area and access lots of information that hasn’t been previously available.
The map also gives users information on the age of pipelines, which company operates them, what oil and gas products they transport and who regulates them.

A second phase of the map due to be added in December will include an additional layer of information detailing pipeline incidents.

“We recognized the need to develop a user friendly tool that people can use to see exactly where transmission pipeline infrastructure is located,” says Brenda Kenny, President and CEO, CEPA. “As part of our About Pipelines website, it’s a great resource for people to get better informed about this critical infrastructure that impacts all of our lives.”

CEPA members have 40,233 kilometres of liquid pipelines and 77,015 kilometres of natural gas pipelines. CEPA’s About Pipelines Map is a great way for people to find out more about them,” says Kenny. “It’s just one example of how we’re working to ensure we’re responsive to the concerns of Canadians by providing information about pipelines that is credible, objective and totally transparent.”
