OMV, a leading integrated energy company, has announced the signing of power purchase agreements (PPAs) with VERBUND and ImWind to power a refinery and pipeline operations.

According to the company’s announcement last week, these agreements will secure an annual supply of 67 gigawatt-hours (GWh) of sustainable electricity, equivalent to the annual consumption of approximately 16,000 households.

The green energy, sourced primarily from hydropower and wind power, will be utilized to power the Schwechat refinery and the Adria Wien Pipeline (AWP), reducing OMV's carbon footprint by around 11,000 tons of CO2 annually.

"Our collaborations with VERBUND and ImWind will contribute to the reliable and sustainable energy supply to our facilities. We are advancing our ambitious decarbonization targets in our Strategy 2030, " said Alfred Stern, Chairman of the Executive Board and CEO of OMV AG.

Stern also emphasized the critical role played by renewable energy partnerships in supporting the transition towards a low-carbon future, adding that the company will continue expanding their portfolio of PPAs.

The agreement with VERBUND, Austria's leading electricity company, will provide OMV with 44 GWh of hydropower-generated electricity annually for four years, starting in January 2025.

However, the partnership with ImWind, a pioneer in Austrian wind power and photovoltaics, will commence in November 2024 and last for eight years, ensuring an annual supply of 23.5 GWh from wind power.
