Over 60% of Nord Stream 2 are finished
According to the Russian Foreign Minister Sergej Lawrow over 60% of the disputed pipeline project Nord Stream 2 is finished. Two ships are currently laying 8 kilometers of pipeline per day and Nord Stream 2 officials anticipate the project being finished at the end of this year.
The Nord Stream 2 project is rife with political tension. While the German government is in support of the project, several other EU states are against it. Due to a new EU directive a tenth of the German part of the pipeline should be accessible to third parties. The EU also sets other rules regarding tariffs and ownership. The United States is threatening companies involved in the project with sanctions and plans for a third project in Danish territorial waters are currently on hold. The Danish government will soon decide whether to issue a permit for a pipeline to be built in Danish territory soon.
