Sempra Infrastructure, a Houston-based energy company, announced Tuesday that it has officially operationalized the Port Arthur Pipeline Louisiana Connector project, which has been completed ahead of schedule and under budget.

Representing a capital expenditure of less than $1 billion, the natural gas pipeline also includes a compressor station located in Beauregard Parish, Louisiana, alongside associated aboveground and belowground facilities.

The newly operational 72-mile (116 kilometers), 42-inch diameter pipeline is designed to transport 2 billion cubic feet of U.S. natural gas per day.

It will serve as a primary supply line for the Port Arthur LNG Phase 1 facility, a liquefied natural gas export project. Currently under construction, the LNG project features an expected nameplate capacity of approximately 13 million tonnes per annum.

Beyond exporting fuel to global markets, the project is built to bolster domestic energy networks in the Gulf Coast region.

The pipeline connects directly with Sempra Infrastructure’s Gillis Hub Pipeline, a major natural gas header system situated in Southwest Louisiana’s energy corridor.

Additionally, the pipeline interconnects with the company’s LA Storage facility, an asset currently under construction that is designed to facilitate the transport of natural gas to and from critical storage capacity along the Gulf Coast.

Justin Bird, chief executive officer of Sempra Infrastructure, praised the project’s execution and underscored its role in broader energy security.

"This milestone is a key step in Sempra Infrastructure's progress to advance critical energy infrastructure in the U.S. in order to help meet the world's growing need for reliable, secure energy," Bird said in a statement.

He added that the timely completion "is a testament to what our teams can achieve when we align around our shared mission."
