Shawcor Grabs Conditional Contract for the Tuxpan Gas Pipeline Project’s Pipe Coating Services
The Mexican company Infraestructura Marina del Golfo (IMG) has offered a conditional contract to the pipe coating group of Shawcor Ltd. for providing pipeline coating solutions to the Tuxpan gas pipeline project. The conditional contract is worth approximately C$ 300 million. It involves coating approximately 690 km of 42” pipe with the application of concrete weight coating in a variety of thicknesses (2.25”, 2.752” and 3.5”). In addition, Shawcor will supply the installation of five thousand sacrificial anodes.
The Tuxpan Gas Pipeline project is being commenced with the purpose of transporting natural gas in the Gulf of Mexico along a route that will be made underwater. The stretch will begin from South of Texas and end at Tuxpan.
This coating work will be conducted at the new Altamira facility of Shawcor, which has been developed strategically to serve offshore projects in the Western Hemisphere. The facility is capable of coating pipes with the diameter up to 48” as it has two high capacity concrete plants for weight coating and a dedicated plant for automated pipe inspection and repair. The work of coating for the Tuxpan gas pipeline project is expected to be completed by 2017 end.
