Sizeable Oil Spill Just Off the Coast of Louisiana

Last week between 9,350 and 9,750 barrels of crude oil shot out of a fractured underwater pipe in the Gulf of Mexico some 64 km from Venice, Louisiana.

LLOG Exploration Offshore, the offshore oil and gas operator, says the pipe is connected to a subsea well and that the leak has ceased.

The Coast Guard is working with the Bureau of Safety and Environmental Enforcement (BSEE) and the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration to find and respond to any oil that reached the surface. There was, in fact, a sheen developing in the various places area around Venice. The Coast Guard continues to conduct overflights of the area.
