Sudan’s military-led government announced Sunday that it has repaired a pipeline connecting to South Sudan, paving the way for the resumption of oil exports.

The pipeline, which had been out of service for eight months due to a blockage, is now ready to transport crude oil to Sudan’s Red Sea coastline, with no specific timeline provided.

The announcement marks a significant step toward reviving the country’s economy, which has been heavily impacted by the ongoing civil war.

Prior to the blockage, the cross-border pipeline carried over 150,000 barrels of crude oil per day from South Sudan to the Republic of Sudan, famously known as Sudan.

The pipeline disruption left the two countries facing financial losses contributing to rising fuel prices in the region.

The repair of the pipeline comes amidst ongoing efforts to address the humanitarian crisis in Sudan caused by the civil war, which has displaced millions of people and led to widespread suffering.
