TotalEnergies has awarded a contract for the construction of a major gas pipeline project in Iraq to China Petroleum Pipeline Engineering, a wholly-owned subsidiary of China Petroleum Engineering Corporation (CPEC)

The project, known as the Artawi GMP EPSCC Project, it includes the construction of two midstream gas pipelines connecting the Majnoon and West Qurna 2 oilfields to Artawi-based processing plant.

The planned gas pipeline infrastructure comprises a 114-kilometre sour gas pipeline built with 26-inch diameter pipes, an 83-kilometre, 20-inch sour gas pipeline, and an 83-kilometre, 20-inch sour gas pipeline.

Additionally, the gas infrastructure will include three more export pipelines, associated valve stations, and other key facilities.

Estimated to cost $294 million, the project is expected to be implemented within three years (36 months), bolstering TotalEnergies' processing and export capacity.

If the contract is officially formalised and the project is implemented, it would help boost profits and revenues for China Petroleum Engineering Corporation (CPEC) in the next four years, strengthening its position in the pipeline engineering market not only in Iraq but also in the Middle East.

TotalEnergies’ oil pipeline infrastructure project is still in the pre-contract phase, with the final contract terms subject to confirmation.

CPEC warned that the project’s execution and finalisation timelines could be affected by the prevailing market, political, and social conditions in Iraq.
