The Trans Adriatic Pipeline (TAP) is planning to open the Southern Gas Corridor for transporting Caspian natural gas to Europe. For this project, they have awarded Siemens to supply six 15-megawatt SGT-400-driven turbo compressor trains.

Jesus Pacheco, head of New Equipment for the Dresser-Rand business part of Siemens Power and Gas, said that Siemens is the right choice to assist TAP for opening up the Southern Gas Corridor and securing proficient gas transmission to Europe. With proven experience and comprehensive engineering expertise, Siemens ensures reliable and safe operation at the lowest possible total lifecycle ownership cost, he added.

All the six compressor trains include a Siemens barrel-type STC-SV compressor and a SGT-400 industrial gas turbine. Three out of six compressor trains will be delivered to the compressor station in Kipoi, which is the starting point of the pipeline project, at the border to Turkey. The project’s landfall in Albania will be 17km northwest of Fier, which will be stretched from the shoreline up to four hundred meters inland where the remaining three compressor trains will be installed.

Installation of the Southern Gas Corridor is expected to begin in 2017, while the pipeline is expected to start operating by the end of 2019.
