Ukraine Armed Forces Hit Key Russian Pipeline and Refinery
Ukraine's Defense Forces launched a series of strikes on Russian territory on Saturday night, targeting a key oil pipeline and an oil refinery, RBC Ukraine reported on Sunday, citing information from the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
The attacks mark a continued effort to disrupt Russia’s logistical and energy capabilities amid the ongoing war that has devastated Ukraine for more than three years, with no immediate end in sight, at least for now.
Units from Ukraine's missile, artillery, and unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) forces hit the 8-N linear-production dispatch station near Naytopovichi in Russia's Bryansk region, which is a crucial component of the Stalnoy kon (Steel Horse) pipeline, transporting petroleum products.
The weekend strikes on Russia’s energy facilities aimed to cripple Russia’s war effort, according to the report, with the station being considered strategically important for supplying fuel to Russian occupation forces.
"Numerous hits were recorded, causing fires in the area of the pumping station and tank farm," the statement read.
Robert Brovdi, commander of Ukraine's UAV Forces, known as "Madyar," confirmed the target's significance, noting it helps transport petroleum from Belarusian refineries, including those in Mozyr and Novopolotsk, to Russia.
In a separate strike, Ukrainian Special Operations Forces targeted the Ilsky oil refinery in Russia's Krasnodar Krai, with explosions and a subsequent fire reported at the facility after the strike. The refinery, which processes 6.42 million tons of oil annually, also supplies Russian troops.
These latest attacks follow a similar incident on Aug. 13, when Ukrainian UAVs hit the Unecha oil pumping station in the Bryansk region, halting oil pumping through the Druzhba pipeline, and prompting Hungary to ban Brovdi from entering the country.
