ABL Group, a global energy and marine consultancy firm, has finished overseeing the transportation and installation of a subsea pipeline for GASCADE Gastransport's Ostsee Anbindungsleitung (OAL) project.

The pipeline connecting an LNG terminal in Mukran to the German network in Lubmin marks a significant step in diversifying Europe's energy sources.

ABL provided marine warranty survey (MWS) services for the 50-kilometer, 48-inch pipeline. The recent completion of the above-water tie-in signifies the successful conclusion of the subsea construction phase, meeting the ambitious target of enabling gas feed-ins by winter 2023/24.

"This project strengthens gas supply security for Germany and Europe," said Sergio Leone, ABL's MWS project manager for OAL. "We are proud to support such critical infrastructure."

"We achieved the OAL in record time," added GASCADE Managing Director Ulrich Benterbusch. "This demonstrates our commitment to improving European energy security."

ABL's Hamburg team managed the project, with support from European colleagues in Germany, Netherlands, Norway, and France. In August 2023, Sapiem was contracted for pipelaying, utilizing their Castoro 10 barge.

The OAL pipeline also has the potential to transport green hydrogen, further contributing to Europe's clean energy transition.
