Egypt's Ministry of Petroleum and Mineral Resources is planning to launch a new pipeline for transporting petroleum products along the Mediterranean coast, Zawya reported last Thursday, citing industry publication Al Arabiya Business.

According to the report, the pipeline will connect the MIDOR oil refinery in Alexandria's Amreya Free Zone to El-Hamra Port, aiming to improve fuel supplies to the El-Alamein City area and surrounding regions. 

The project, which will cost EGP 1.70 billion (roughly $36 million), is expected to begin operations in phases by the end of 2024.

Sources familiar with the project told Al Arabiya Business that construction is already 75% complete, with a target completion date by the end of the third quarter this year. 

Additionally, a portion of the pipeline's capacity is reportedly intended for exporting petroleum products through El-Hamra Port starting in 2025.
