First Phase of Baghdad Gas Pipeline Rehabilitation Completed
Iraq's Oil Pipelines Company has completed the first phase of rehabilitating a key natural gas pipeline, the Ministry of Oil announced.
The 13-kilometer (8-mile) stretch of the 12-inch diameter pipeline runs from the East Baghdad field to the Taji power station. Director General of the Oil Pipelines Company Ali Abdul Kareem Al-Moussawi said the project's completion marks a significant step towards utilizing flared gas from the East Baghdad field.
The initiative aligns with the government and the Ministry of Oil's plans to leverage Carbon Credit financing for flared gas projects. Being the first of its kind in Iraq, the project is said to comply with international standards and frameworks.
Al-Moussawi also emphasised the imminent delivery of dry gas from the East Baghdad field to the Taji power station, which is expected to boost electricity production.
Notably, the rehabilitation work, encompassing both the pipeline itself and associated parts, was finalised within a swift timeframe of one month.
