Russian State-owned giant gas supplier Gazprom reported on Tuesday, Dec. 14, that the gas supply to China through the Power of Siberia Pipeline would remain above the contract levels as the company planned further deliveries increase in 2022.

"In November and December, in line with mutually beneficial agreements reached between Gazprom and CNPC, daily gas export volumes to China are significantly above the previously-agreed plan for 2021," Gazprom said in a statement shortly after a video conference with officials from its Chinese partner, CNPC.

While the company did not provide the details of gas supply increment in the past two months of the year, it said on Dec. 1 the volume of gas supplied to China had exceeded the daily contractual obligation by more than one third on Nov. 2, as the company expects to supply about 10Bcm through the Power of Siberia.

"Gazprom continues to prepare for a further planned increase in gas exports in 2022, in accordance with the dynamics of increased supplies stipulated in the contract," Russia's gas supplier said. However, it did not provide new details about the planned gas supply increase in 2022.

In 2014, Russia's Gazprom and China's CNPC signed a 30-year purchase and sale agreement for the supply of 38 Bcm gas per year, and the first supply began towards the end of 2019. The company also gave updates on the feasibility study for Soyuz Vostok pipeline construction to supply more gas to China via Mongolia.

Gazprom has also been assessing the viability of delivering up to 50 Bcm of natural gas per year through the Mongolia route. And in April 2021, the feasibility study for the construction of the Soyuz Vostok gas pipeline was approved.

The meeting's participants also discussed working together on gas storage, technical, scientific, and oil projects. Tuesday's meeting came on the eve of a high-profile video conference between the Russian president Vladimir Putin and China's Xi Jinping, which was scheduled on Dec. 15.
