Italian oil and gas giant Saipem announced the successful completion of the South Gas Compression Plant Pipelines project in Saudi Arabia.

The major undertaking aims to extend the life of gas wells in the Haradh and Hawiyah fields.

Spanning over 700 kilometers, the intricate network comprises flowlines, trunklines, and transmission lines, along with associated facilities for gas transportation within the complex. This includes liquid station separations, remote headers, gas gathering manifolds, and off-plot tie-in facilities.

The project marks a significant step in Saudi Aramco's strategy to enhance domestic gas production, targeting more than a 50% increase by 2030.

By leveraging natural gas as a cleaner alternative to oil, the initiative addresses crucial strategic and energy transition goals, including diversifying the Kingdom's energy mix and fostering the petrochemicals industry.

"Throughout this project, Saipem has proudly supported Aramco's efforts to reduce oil dependence and promote natural gas as a primary fuel source for local industries," a company spokesperson stated.

The project posed considerable logistical, safety, security, and management challenges, demanding meticulous planning and execution.

With successful completion, the South Gas Compression Plant Pipelines project not only secures extended productivity for valuable gas wells but also underscores Saipem's expertise in navigating complex engineering endeavors while contributing to Saudi Arabia's ambitious energy transition goals.
